Udaipur is located south of Rajasthan and is also known as the city of 100 lakes, the Venice of India or the most romantic place in the subcontinent according to the British James Todd. For this and more there is a lot to do and see in Udaipur.
We spent 2 days in Udaipur and we just had to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas in this wonderful city founded on the shores of Lake Pichola by the Maharaja Udai Singh II from which it takes its name.
Top Attraction Must See in Udaipur
Clock tower
This tower is located in the center of the old city of Udaipur and is the perfect place to start getting to know it.
It is a structure of a clock that by what we understood was built after the janistas and the Muslims of the time made peace because they fought for everything.
Me and my friend together with the priests gathered and charged 5000 rupees to the two villages and built this clock as a symbol of peace.
The City Palace – Udaipur City Palace
This is the obligatory visit to see in Udaipur and so we would put it if it were not for us to visit it on Christmas day, although the majority in India does not celebrate it if it coincides with its fairs.
Do not misunderstand us, the palace is very beautiful and it is an architectural complex composed of 4 palaces, the largest in all of Rajasthan.
The problem is that we had to visit him in a row, literally, walking at 1km x hour and suffocating at times of so many people.
The price of Udaipur Palace is 300 rupees foreign and 100 rupees student.
We recommend you to get an audio guide or a guide to better understand the story.
Cruise on the Lake to Jagmandir Island
Next to the city palace you have the option to pay 450 rupees and take a boat trip that crosses Lake Pichola that houses the Jagmandir Palace.
This palace has been converted into a hotel and restaurant, these Indians do not waste time, and everything becomes something to get money here.
We after the oppression in the Palace and the people decided not to do it.
Taj Lake Palace or Lake Palace
This place is beautiful and it was a palace, which was converted into hotel JA!. Today it hosts the famous Taj Lake Palace hotel and only its guests can enjoy it. However, from the shores of Lake Pichola you can enjoy seeing it in the distance and think that one day you will stay in it on a trip with your partner.
Jadish Hindu Temple
This temple is free and you can visit it while you walk through the center of the city, it is very nice and has some impressive carvings. Although being sincere, it resembles many of the temples we have seen in Rajasthan. When you go through this temple you will understand it.
Typical dances and puppets in the Bagore Ki Haveli
This has been the cherry on the cake of our visit to the white city of Rajasthan. For us the best to see in Udaipur. It was our Christmas gift because, literally, all functions were full until 2 days later and luckily we got one and even enter the place earlier. There are two programs every day, one at 07:00 pm and another at 08:00pm, both functions has 100 seats.
The price is 150 rupees and believes that it is worth much but much more, Gabriela had her hands red from applauding so much.
The show lasts an hour and they tell you the origin of the different Rajasthan dances, traditional stories and finally the crown of the cake is worn by a 72-year-old dancer who dances with 11 pots in her head.
At the end of the show we all lined up to greet her and take a picture of her and many even touched her feet as a symbol of good luck.
Incredible, we were amazed, if we and the Lonely Planet recommend it, you have to go must experience.
Palace of the Monsoon
This palace was recommended to us by the guide of the free tour and is on top of a hill. Anyway if you have more desire and time than us it is a good option to see in Udaipur.
